It was three years ago that the Korean caused a major stir when he placed runner-up to American Brian Harman at Royal Liverpool in what was only his second Open Championship appearance.

This week, the former Asian Tour Order of Merit winner is aiming to go one better at Royal Birkdale, a course that is less than 30 miles north of the venue at which he made his first run at a Major title in 2023.

On the opening-day of the 154th edition of golf’s original championship, Kim found himself on the wrong side of the draw, a 1.31 pm start time meaning he was among those who experienced the most challenging of the conditions with the winds whipping up in the afternoon.

Dopo la prima delle tre giornate di gara al Golf Club Genova – Sant’Anna di Cogoleto, il Team Italia 1, con 83 punti, è in vetta alla Nation’s Cup for golfers with disability, mentre nella graduatoria dell’European Team Championship for golfers with Disability c’è l‘Inghilterra al comando con 145 colpi (+3) e l’Italia insegue in quarta posizione a nove colpi di distanza. Tra le tante emozioni del primo round, prodezza di Mario Gazzetta, autore di una hole in one alla buca 17 (par 3, 104 metri). L’evento, organizzato dalla Federazione Italiana Golf in collaborazione con il Golf Club Genova – Sant’Anna, l’EGA (European Golf Association) e con l’EDGA (European Disabled Golf Association), vede competere otto squadre nel campionato europeo e sei (con l’Italia che schiera due compagini) nella Nation’s Cup.

Italia protagonista nel McGregor Trophy, grazie al successo nella Nation’s Cup in Inghilterra, sul percorso del Clitheroe Golf Club (Lancashire). Hanno preso parte al torneo, conosciuto anche come English Boys’ Under 16 Open Amateur Stroke Play Championship, Alessandro Comparone (Ambrosiano), Luca Di Mauro (Arzaga), Gabriele Dossi (Franciacorta), Samuele Ferrario (Varese), Leonardo Girardi (Asolo), Mattia Pagani (Arzaga), Tommaso Regoli (Parco di Roma), Leonardo Zanardi (Arzaga). Con loro l’allenatore federale Giovanni Magni e l’accompagnatore Gian Maria Rean Trinchero. Hanno partecipato a titolo personale Edoardo Bardelle (Le Rovedine) e Ludovico Rossi (Olgiata).

Not since Carnoustie in 2018 and Muirfield before that, arguably, in 2013 have the fairways at an Open Championship appeared so parched.

Con la cerimonia di apertura e la presentazione delle squadre in gara, prende il via l’European Team Championship for Golfers with Disability, torneo internazionale per giocatrici e giocatori paralimpici in programma al Golf Club Genova – Sant’Anna di Cogoleto (Genova) dal 16 al 18 luglio. L’evento, organizzato dalla Federazione Italiana Golf in collaborazione con il Golf Club Genova – Sant’Anna, l’EGA (European Golf Association) e con l’EDGA (European Disabled Golf Association), vedrà competere otto squadre nel campionato europeo e sei (con l’Italia che schiererà due compagini) nella Nation’s Cup.

José Bagnarelli farà parte per la seconda edizione consecutiva del Team Europe che affronterà il Team USA nella Cairn’s Cup, torneo con il format Ryder Cup per golfisti paralimpici. La competizione, che prevede sei incontri di foursome, altrettanti di fourball e 12 singoli, si disputerà in Spagna al San Roque Golf Club di San Roque (Cadiz) dal 15 al 17 luglio.

Frequently referred to as a perverse form of punishment, golf has a long history in testing the will of those who play the sport. Il riconoscimento dell’Associazione Italiana Giornalisti Golfisti è stato assegnato a Giulia Sergas e Alessandro Carrara che maggiormente si sono distinti nel panorama del golf italiano per meriti agonistici, tecnici o manageriali.

La premiazione si è svolta nel Media Center del DS Automobiles 83° Open d’Italia al Circolo Golf Torino. Giulia Sergas, dopo una grande carriera in Europa e in America, culminata con la partecipazione, con vittoria, alla Solheim Cup nel 2013, e alle Olimpiadi di Rio 2016, ha deciso di mettere tutta l’esperienza accumulata al servizio dell’insegnamento. Il suo libro “Quando vincere inganna” esplora la gestione delle emozioni, la psicologia e l’approccio mentale applicati al mondo dello sport e della performance.
