GOLF.GARA.Smyth’s consistent form rewarded with first win in four years

The ongoing fine form of Travis Smyth and Jack Thompson was rewarded at the weekend at the ISPS HANDA Japan-Australasia Championship when the Australian stars faced off against each other in a marathon sudden-death play-off.

Smyth triumphed after he made birdie on the sixth play-off hole at Royal Auckland & Grange Golf Club on Sunday – in a new event on the Challenger PGA Tour of Australasia and Japan Golf Tour.

It’s the culmination of extended periods of excellent golf by both players, including on the Asian Tour.

Roberta Liti, dopo un’ottima prestazione in condizioni meteo difficili, si è classificata sesta con 283 (71 73 65 74, -5) colpi nell’Australian Women’s Classic, giunto alla settima edizione e secondo dei quattro eventi di fila in Australia del Ladies European Tour, organizzati in collaborazione con il WPGA Tour of Australasia.

Sul percorso del Magenta Shores Golf & Country Club (par 72), a Magenta nel New South Galles, ha dominato con 275 (66 68 70 71, -13) l’australiana Kelsey Bennett, che ha lasciato a quattro colpi le inglesi Meghan MacLaren, a segno nel 2022, e Caley McGinty, seconde con 279 (-9). In quarta posizione con 281 (-7) la thailandese Trichat Cheenglab, in quinta con 282 (-6) l’indiana Diksha Dagar, in sesta, insieme all’azzurra, la sudafricana Casandra

La danese Sarah Skovgaard Bils ha superato in finale per 1 up l’inglese Elizabeth Wilson e ha vinto lo Spanish International Ladies’ Amateur Championship/Copa S. M. La Reina, disputato sul percorso de La Reserva Club Sotogrande (par 72), a Sotogrande sulla Costa del Sol spagnola. La vincitrice ha avuto ragione in semifinale dell’azzurra Guia Vittoria Acutis (5&4), mentre la Wilson ha battuto la francese Elea Bastoni (1 up).

India’s Aditi Ashok in the Mix After 54 Holes at Blue Bay LPGA

The 27-year-old carded five birdies and three bogeys on yet another windy day at Jian Lake Blue Bay Golf Course to sit at 8-under total with defending champion Rio Takeda (67) and major winner A Lim Kim (71).

“I think it takes a lot of patience to play in the wind because usually I feel like when I’m playing well, you can birdie any hole, but in the wind, even if you’re playing well, some holes you just can’t get at those flags,” said the two-time Olympian on Saturday. “You have to take the chances that you get, and it makes those birdie putts that much more important.”
