Erika Hara continued her breakout rookie season Friday, carding a 6-under-par 66 in the second round of The Standard Portland Classic to move into a share of third place at Columbia Edgewater Country Club.
The 27-year-old from Japan, who started the day at 3-under 69, posted a low round among contenders to reach 9-under 135 through 36 holes, though positions remain unofficial with the second wave still on the course.
Hara opened her round with a par before making the turn in 5-under, highlighted by a birdie on the par-3 second hole and another on the par-5 seventh hole. She added two closing pars on the front nine before a bogey on the par-5 10th hole briefly slowed her momentum.
She answered immediately, with back-to-back birdies on Nos. 12 and 13 to climb back to 6-under for the tournament. Two pars followed before Hara closed with a flourish, reeling off three consecutive birdies on Nos. 16, 17 and 18 — a par-3, par-4 and par-4, respectively — to post a back-nine 32 and complete her 66.
Hara finished the round with seven birdies against a single bogey, sitting three shots back of leader Arpichaya Yubol as play continued Friday.
The result continues a strong 2026 campaign for Hara, who has made 10 cuts in 16 starts this season, including four top-10 finishes, a tie for eighth at the ISPS HANDA Women’s Scottish Open, a tie for ninth at the Mizuho Americas Open and Riviera Maya Open at Mayakoba and a tie for 10th at the Blue Bay LPGA. She continues to lead the Louise Suggs Rolex Rookie of the Year race with 422 points, more than 100 points ahead of second-place Youmin Hwang.
A graduate of the Epson Tour, Hara earned her LPGA Tour card by finishing fifth in the 2025 Race for the Card standings after a season that included nine top-10 finishes and a win at the Wildhorse Ladies Golf Classic, her lone Epson Tour victory to date. She made 17 cuts in 18 Epson Tour starts that year.
Hara arrived on the LPGA Tour with an established winning pedigree in Japan, having captured the Japan Women’s Open Golf Championship twice, in 2020 and 2023, along with the 2020 Japan LPGA Tour Championship.
With two rounds remaining at Columbia Edgewater Country Club, Hara will look to build on Friday’s momentum as she chases her first LPGA Tour title.
