Designer Bodo Sperlein presents Arabesque, a new sculptural lamp created in collaboration with the lighting company LZF Lamps. The piece, inspired by Andalusian architecture, debuted at MENU 2026 during Milan Design Week, as part of the designer’s intervention inside the historic All Saints Anglican Church in Brera. 

Arabesque is the latest addition to Sperlein’s ongoing collection with LZF and reflects a shared philosophy: light is not merely functional, but a medium that shapes space, emotion and atmosphere. The piece embodies this vision by positioning itself closer to sculpture than to a conventional lamp, transforming its surroundings through its architectural presence and the warm, tactile glow of wood. 

Crafted from LZF’s signature natural wood veneer, Arabesque is composed of undulating, interwoven bands that form a suspended, softly domed volume. Light filters through the translucent wood, generating depth, shadows and a sense of movement inherent to the material. The overlapping arches appear to float lightly, merging material innovation with sculptural elegance. 

The design draws on the architectural heritage of Andalusian Spain, where interlacing arches, vaults and rhythmic geometric patterns have defined centuries of historic interiors. Sperlein translates these motifs into a contemporary form, reinterpreting historical geometry in wood veneer to create a lamp that feels at once modern, lightweight and rooted in tradition. 

“Working with LZF means exploring the poetic potential of wood and light,” says Sperlein. “With Arabesque we have created a piece that transforms a space architecturally, while offering an intimate and human experience of light.” 

For more than two decades, LZF Lamps has been a pioneer in the use of wood veneer in lighting. Each piece in its collection is crafted with precision and under sustainability criteria, allowing the natural grain and translucency of the material to animate the space.
